Earl Leggett, Professional Football player
Leggett was a standout athlete in both football and track at Robert E. Lee Senior High School. Leggett won the 1951 Class 2A State title in shot put becoming the second Florida athlete to ever throw over 50 feet. He was also in a class among his own on the football field, where he played defensive line for the Generals. After a brief time at Lee he left and went to Hinds Junior College and later to Louisiana State University. While at LSU he earned All-SEC honors. In 1957 Leggett was drafted by the Chicago Bears with the 13th pick (1st round) of the NFL Draft, becoming Jacksonville's first NFL 1st-round draft pick. Leggett played for the Bears for 11 season, playing in a total of 132 NFL games. He was also a part of the "Monsters of Midway" defense that led the Bears to the 1963 NFL championship. Leggett finished his playing years in 1968 after playing a year for the Los Angeles Rams and two years for the expansion New Orleans Saints. Following his retirement from playing Leggett continued in football by coaching the defensive line for several NFL teams, including the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders, Denver Broncos and the New York Giants.

Mark McCumber, Professional Golfer
McCumber was a standout golfer at Robert E. Lee Senior High School in the late 1960s. McCumber became the youngest golfer in (JAGA) Jacksonville-Area Golf Association to win the city's JAGA Championship in 1965 at 14 years of age. He qualified for the National Public Links the following year and was the youngest participant in the tournament. McCumber again won the JAGA Championship in 1969.  After high school McCumber took several years away from golfing. In 1973 McCumber decided to rejoin golf in the professional ranks and by 1978 he made his way to the PGA. From 1979 to 1994 he competed in the PGA Tour winning 10 championships, including the 1988 Players Championship and 1994 Tour Championship. McCumber, playing alongside Ben Crenshaw, won the golf World Cup in 1988 and was apart of the 1989 Ryder Cup team. Since leaving the PGA Tour McCumber has continued to play golf, work as a golf course architect, and has been featured as a golf analyst for Fox Sports.
