Lee Boys run Elite, Girls post a top time

The boys cross-country team looked like it belonged racing in the Katie Caples' Elite race, reserved for the Top 20 teams of the 53 entered. Though the boys placed 14th of 20, they received encouragement in the emergence of Michael Leathers (17:57) in the sub-18 minute club. Leather's performance moves him to 8th in Lee's All-Time 5K Times list.

Just ahead of Leather's for the Generals was the duo of Rayford James and Dominic Williams. James was able to out run Williams (17:12) this week, finishing 5 seconds ahead at 17:07 for the 5k. Generals to run at Katie Caples Invitational Saturday

On Saturday the Boys' and Girls' Cross-Country teams will run under the lights at the annual Katie Caples Invitational. The meet will feature 53 teams from Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Races start at 5:45pm and will conclude with awards at 9:00pm.

Admission is $5 for adults and teens with all proceeds going to the Katie Caples Scholarship Foundation. For those unable to attend the Invitational live streaming of the meet is available starting at 5:45pm. [Click Here to Live Stream]

Runners Discover 110% Cross Country at UNF (from flrunners.com)

It is comforting to know that stretches of wooded trails still exist in a state that is generally regarded as a “Shopper’s Heaven,” where air conditioned malls seem to have replaced most of what we originally came here to find. Of course, “find” is the term that best described my initial visit to the UNF campus.

I will be the first to admit that my internal compass is not the least bit reliable before the sun rises to a point that makes the landscape recognizable. So there I was, circling the campus--like more than a few other disoriented drivers--attempting to discern the connection between Lots 14 and 16 and a cross country meet. Bob Hans Invitational 2013 (Results)

Great job to the Cross-Country team for their performance at the Bob Hans Invitational. The boys team was lead by Dominic Williams and Rayford James finishing 3rd and 6th overall.

Sophomore Dominic Williams finished in a time of 16:51.65 averaging 5:25.7 per mile. Junior Rayford James followed closely behind in a time of 17:00.46 averaging 5:28.5 per mile.

Also competing for the Generals were Sophomore Buay Deng (21:01.9), Freshman Kris Small (23:06.14), Sophomore Chris Curry (23:33.06) and Junior Marcel Enguerra (25:44.72).

Congratulations to the team in beating 10 teams at the meet finishing 14 of 24 this early in the season. Look for a lot of improvement in this young team led by 7th year Coach Mike Wachholz, whom is known for his ability to develop young runners.
